In & Out Magazine recognized Jefferson Prep

Jefferson Preparatory received accolades again this year with the AZ Merit scores reported by In and Out Magazine!  JP is the second highest ranked high school in North Phoenix with an overall increase in scores of 17.7%.  This is the second highest increase in scores for any school in North Phoenix regardless of school type (elementary, K-8, high school), etc.  Jefferson was also noted as being second in growth with the addition of our 7th and 8th grades.

Congratulations are also due to our sister school, Adams Traditional Academy, for a first place over all ranking for the fourth year in a row.

Food For Thought When Choosing a High School

During a conference attended by JPHS science teacher, Ms. Olson, the Department of Education provided a few startling statistics for recent high school graduates in Arizona.

The Department of Education reported:

  • 22% of high school students do not graduate on time.
  • 45% of employers hiring high school graduates report that they do not have basic skills necessary for employment.
  • 53% of high school graduates do not qualify for in-state universities.
  • 59% of high school graduates have to take remedial classes in community college to get into in-state colleges.

Further research, after the conference, confirmed a myriad of causes for these statistics including lower standards, lack of mentor/counselor oversight (due to large numbers of students being tracked by relatively few counselors), and poor communication with parents.  This is alarming information for parents making decisions on which high school they wish to have their student attend.

Regardless of the high school, and of course we hope you choose Jefferson Preparatory, parents need to research their school of choice thoroughly.  Schools are public entities and their graduation rates, school label, and other statistics should be available for review.

We believe that the excellent curriculum choices, highly qualified instructors, and small mentor/student groups offered by Jefferson Preparatory will ensure that our student does not become one of these statistics.

Come learn about our Nationally recognized program at one of our next High School Information Meetings. The Information Meetings are held at 16635 N. 51st  Ave in Glendale in the Dining Hall twice a month. Please call the school secretary to reserve the your seat today, 602-595-2990.

We look forward to meeting with you!
