ADOT is making improvements to the interchange at Pinnacle Peak, which have and will continue to affect how we get to campus. Here is an important update.
Interstate 17, Pinnacle Peak Road and additional ramps set to close this Friday, Nov. 15; I-17 frontage roads reconfigured north of Pinnacle Peak Road
Allow EXTRA TIME and USE DETOURS while I-17 is closed this weekend
|Drivers should prepare for major closures in north Phoenix this weekend as the Arizona Department of Transportation makes big changes at Interstate 17 and Pinnacle Peak Road. Among them: The original Pinnacle Peak Road bridge will be demolished and removed. ADOT advises motorists to allow extra travel time and be prepared to use detours while the following closures and restrictions are in place:
Changes at Pinnacle Peak Road and I-17
When I-17 and Pinnacle Peak Road reopen late Sunday, drivers will use a newly constructed bridge crossing and two new ramps at Pinnacle Peak Road: the southbound I-17 exit ramp and the northbound I-17 on-ramp. The new crossing is one of two that will make up the tight-diamond interchange currently under construction. Removing the old Pinnacle Peak Road bridge clears the way for construction of a second crossing over the freeway. The side-by-side bridges will accommodate two through lanes and turn lanes in each direction when the project is complete next year.
On- and off-ramp closures – I-17 and Pinnacle Peak Road
Reconstruction of the remaining two freeway ramps is scheduled to begin late Friday and continue for several weeks. Drivers must use detours while the following around-the-clock ramp closures are in place:
Frontage Road Reconfigurations
ADOT will temporarily reconfigure sections of the north- and southbound I-17 frontage roads between Pinnacle Peak and Deer Valley roads while ramp reconstruction at I-17 and Pinnacle Peak Road continues.
Reminder: An 11-foot vehicle-width restriction remains in place on north- and southbound I-17 between Pinnacle Peak and Happy Valley roads.
